How to change your email on Roblox (web and app)
Roblox lets you swap the email on your account in a minute, as long as you know your password and can open mail at the new address. The catch is that the address does more than receive newsletters, so a typo or a dead inbox can lock you out later.
How do you change your email on Roblox?
Log in, open Settings (the gear icon on the web, More on the mobile app), select Account Info, and select Update Email (the pencil icon). Type the new address and your current Roblox password. Roblox emails the new address, and the change finishes when you follow the instructions in that email.
Before you change it
Two minutes here saves a support ticket later.
- Open the new inbox first. Send yourself a test message and make sure it arrives. Roblox's change only completes from inside that inbox.
- Know your password. Roblox's change email article says you must know the account password. If you do not, reset it first (see below).
- Check your 2-Step Verification method. Roblox sends email codes to the verified email on the account, so after the change they go to the new inbox. Authenticator app codes are not tied to your email.
- Save fresh backup codes. In Settings, then Security, Roblox lets you generate recovery codes, which you can see only once. Generating new ones deactivates the old set.
- Keep the old address open for a while. Roblox sends an alert to it when the email changes, and that alert is your early warning if someone else ever does this.
Step by step: web and mobile app
Roblox's steps are the same in a browser and in the iPhone or Android app. Only the way into Settings differs.
- Log in to the account you want to change.
- Open Settings.
- In a browser: the gear icon at the upper right of the site.
- In the mobile app: the three dots icon for More, then Settings.
- Select the Account Info tab.
- Select Update Email, the button with a pencil and paper icon.
- Enter the new email address.
- Enter your current Roblox password.
- Open the new inbox. Roblox sends an email to the new address. Follow the instructions in it to confirm.
That last step is the verification. Until you complete it, the new address is not verified, and several features depend on a verified email (more on that below).
| Where you are | How to reach Settings | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Browser on a computer | Gear icon, upper right | Account Info, Update Email (pencil icon) |
| Roblox app on iPhone or Android | More (three dots), then Settings | Account Info, Update Email (pencil icon) |
| No email on the account yet | Same as above | Account Info, Add Email, then confirm from the inbox |
What the new address controls on Roblox
Roblox spreads this across several help articles. Put together, your verified email is used for:
- Logging in. You can sign in with your email and password instead of your username, but only with a verified email. If one email is linked to more than one account, Roblox shows "Your email is associated with more than 1 username" and you have to log in with the username instead.
- Password resets. Roblox's forgot password flow sends the reset email to the address currently on the account, and you must type it exactly as it appears there. Roblox's own example: if the account has nameexample@domain.com without a period, typing name.example@domain.com will not match.
- 2-Step Verification. Roblox says you must have a verified email to turn on 2SV at all. With email 2SV, a code goes to that inbox every time you log in with your password.
- Security alerts. When Roblox holds a sensitive action, it sends the warning to the registered email.
- Account recovery. If you turn on 2SV and lose your main method, Roblox says you need two different verification methods on the account to get back in. A verified email is one of them.
So the address on your Roblox account is effectively the master key. Pick one you will still control in five years.
Can you change your Roblox email without your password?
No. Roblox requires the current password as part of the change. If you have forgotten it:
- On the login page, select Forgot Password or Username?
- Enter the email that is on the account now (or use the Phone tab if the account has a verified phone number instead).
- Open the reset email, set a new password, then come back and change the email.
If the old email is gone and there is no phone number on the account, the reset tool cannot help you. Roblox's advice is to contact Customer Support, which has to verify that you own the account before it changes anything.
Can you change it without verification?
Not in a way that sticks. The change itself happens through the email Roblox sends to the new address, so if you cannot open that inbox, you cannot finish. If the email never shows up, Roblox's verification article suggests:
- Wait a few minutes, then check Spam or Junk.
- Add email_validate@roblox.com to your contacts and try again.
Roblox's 2SV troubleshooting page adds the Promotions and Social tabs and any other folders your provider filters into, and suggests marking the message Not Spam if you find it there.
What if 2-Step Verification gets in the way?
If Roblox asks for a 2SV code while you make the change, look in the inbox that is verified on the account right now. Roblox's 2SV troubleshooting page notes that email codes expire after 15 minutes and stop working if one was entered wrong, so use Resend Code rather than retyping an old one. A saved backup code also works.
If you have lost access to both the old email and your 2SV method, this is a support case, not a settings change.
Why Roblox might make you wait
Roblox has a security feature called Delayed Actions. For what it calls significant account changes, especially from a new device, a new location or activity that looks unusual, it can block the action for a mandatory wait, "typically several hours", and send an alert to your registered email and other logged-in devices.
Roblox does not publish a full list of the affected actions. If you see a delay notice while changing your email:
- If it was you, wait for the timer to finish, then return and complete the change. Roblox says doing sensitive actions from a device you use often, or with a passkey you have had for a while, usually avoids the wait next time.
- If it was not you, select "No, it's not me" in the alert. Roblox logs out the suspicious session. Then change your password and check your 2SV settings.
Kids under 13: the parent's email
For accounts under 13, Roblox asks parents to add and verify their own address as a parental recovery email, in Settings, then Account Info, on the child's account. That lets the parent help recover the account if the password is forgotten.
Roblox notes this address can be different from the one the parent uses for a linked parent account. So "change parent email" can mean two different things: the recovery email on the child's account (change it in the child's Account Info) or the email on the parent's own Roblox account (change it in the parent's account, with the same steps as above).
If someone else changed your email
The alert Roblox sends to your old address is the sign. If you did not make the change, act fast. Roblox's hacked account guide says to remove any suspicious downloads or browser extensions, reset your password, and turn on 2SV.
If you cannot get back in, contact Roblox support from either the first email address added to the account or the billing email used for its very first payment. Roblox says that original information still helps even after the email was changed. If items or Robux were lost, Roblox asks you to contact it within 30 days. Our guide on what to do if your email is hacked covers securing the inbox itself.
What about receipts and billing?
Roblox's help center has no separate "billing email" setting. If you bought Robux through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Microsoft, Xbox, Samsung or Xsolla, Roblox's receipts page points you to that store's own purchase history, so those receipts go with your account at that store.
Roblox is usually one of many accounts on the same inbox. If you are moving off an old address for good, our checklist for changing your email address everywhere puts the accounts in order of risk, and this guide covers telling people your email changed.
A new address that needs no phone number
If you are setting up a fresh address anyway, Secria Mail signs you up with a name, the address you want and a password. No phone number and no card. The free plan includes 1 GB of storage and 2 email aliases. Give Roblox its own alias, and if that address ever starts getting spam or phishing, you know where it leaked from and can switch it off by deleting the alias. You can also import your old mail from Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and Thunderbird.
Frequently asked questions
Does Roblox tell my old email when I change it? Yes. Roblox says that for security reasons, the previous email address gets an alert that a change was made.
Can two Roblox accounts use the same email? Roblox's login article acknowledges one email can be associated with more than one username. In that case you cannot log in with the email and must use each account's username.
Why can't I log in with my new email? Most often the new address is not verified yet. Find Roblox's email in the new inbox and follow it. Also check you are typing the address exactly as it is on the account.
Can I change my Roblox email on Xbox? Roblox documents the change for the web and the mobile apps. The simplest route is to do it in a browser or the phone app with the same account, then log in on Xbox as usual.
How do I remove my email from Roblox completely? Roblox's help center describes adding and updating an email, not removing one. Since login, password resets and 2SV all lean on it, replacing it with an address you control is the safer move.
Change it once, confirm it from the new inbox, and keep the old one open long enough to catch Roblox's alert. If you want that new inbox to be one you sign up for without handing over a phone number, you can create a free Secria account.
