How to change your email on Netflix, step by step

Adrian Maverick · · 10 min read

Go to netflix.com/email in a browser, sign in if asked, confirm your identity if Netflix prompts you, then enter the new address and save. Netflix sends an email confirming the change. If it refuses, the usual causes are an active Kids profile, an address already used on another account or profile, or an address outside the 4 to 50 character limit.

Below: the two kinds of Netflix email, every rule Netflix documents for the change, and fixes for the errors. Checked against Netflix's help center on November 4, 2026.

How do you change your email on Netflix?

Netflix's own article, How to change your account email address on Netflix, sends you to one place: the Change Email page.

  1. Open a web browser and go to netflix.com/email. On a phone, use the phone's browser rather than the app.
  2. Sign in if Netflix asks you to.
  3. If a Kids profile is active, switch to another profile first. Netflix will not change the email while a Kids profile is in use.
  4. Confirm your identity if prompted. Netflix says you "may need to confirm your identity before making a change."
  5. Enter the new address and save.

You can also reach the same setting from the Account page. Netflix's page on accessing and updating your account information says the account email lives under Security on the Account page.

Once the change goes through, Netflix's page on updating account information says: "Once you update your account information, we'll send you an email confirming the changes."

The rules Netflix sets for the new address

Rule What Netflix says
Length The address must be between 4 and 50 characters
Uniqueness You can't change to an address already used on another account
Profile A Kids profile must not be active when you make the change
Identity You may be asked to confirm your identity first

Account email or profile email: which one do you mean?

The top Google suggestion for this topic is "how to change email on netflix profile," and that is because Netflix has two kinds of email address.

The account email is the primary address. It is what the account owner signs in with, where password reset emails go, and where Netflix sends account updates. Netflix's page on managing email notes that you can't unsubscribe from messages about account updates, such as security alerts and billing. This is the one you change at netflix.com/email.

A profile email is an extra address added to one profile. Netflix says you can add one to any profile with an All Maturity rating "to receive personalized recommendations and other communications from Netflix." Netflix's email verification page adds that when an email is added to a profile, that person is asked to verify it with a 6-digit code before signing in, and once verified "they can sign in to their profile from any supported device."

So if someone in your household signs in with their own address and wants to change it, they are changing a profile email, not the account email. Netflix says that is done in the Manage Profiles section of the Account page.

How to change or remove a profile email

On the web, Netflix's steps for removing an email from a profile are:

  1. Sign in to your Account page.
  2. Select Profiles, then choose the profile.
  3. Select Email.
  4. Click Delete email address.

To replace it, add the new address to the same profile afterwards. The profile's owner will then get a code at the new address to verify it.

Why Netflix says the email is already in use

If the change fails because the address is taken, Netflix's page on an email being used on another account gives two possible reasons.

You have a second Netflix account. It happens when someone mistypes an address or signs up again with a different one. To check, go to netflix.com/loginhelp, choose to reset your password by Email, enter the address you want to switch to and select Email Me. If a reset email arrives, an account exists on that address. Netflix asks you to contact its support for help from there.

The address is on a profile. This is the twist. An address attached to a profile in your own household counts as used. Netflix says you need to remove your email address from an existing profile before you can use it elsewhere. Remove it with the four steps above, then try the account email change again.

If the reset attempt shows "No account found for this email address" and the address is not on any profile you can see, Netflix's advice is to contact them.

Before you change it: a short checklist

Netflix tells members to keep "the email and phone number on your account are current and accessible, so you can recover your account if you lose access" on its account security page. A few minutes of preparation keeps the change from locking you out.

  • Make sure the new inbox works. Send yourself a test message from another account and confirm it arrives. Netflix's sign-in codes go to your email or phone, and its help page on codes says they expire 15 minutes after you request them, so an inbox you can't reach quickly is a problem.
  • Allow Netflix's senders. Add info@account.netflix.com and info@mailer.netflix.com to your contacts so codes and confirmations don't land in spam.
  • Check your phone number. A verified phone number is a second way back in. Netflix notes that only one account can have your verified phone number, and verifying it on one account removes it from any other.
  • Keep the old inbox open for a while. Mail sent to it in the meantime, from Netflix or anyone else, still reaches you.
  • Have your password handy. Netflix may ask you to confirm your identity before it lets you make the change.

If you are changing more than Netflix, our guide to changing your email address everywhere has the order that keeps you from getting locked out of the accounts that matter most.

How to verify your new email on Netflix

Netflix doesn't always ask for verification, but you can trigger it yourself. From Netflix's verification page:

  1. Go to the Security section of your account.
  2. Select Email.
  3. Select Send Link.
  4. Tap or click Verify Email in the message Netflix sends.

If the link has expired by the time you open it, tap or click Send Link on the error screen and a fresh one arrives. Netflix says verifying "helps keep your account more secure and up-to-date."

Fixing errors when changing your Netflix email

"Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later."

Netflix calls this error common and says it usually fixes itself after a short time. Its troubleshooting page for this error gives these steps, in order, trying again after each:

  1. Clear the Netflix cookie. Go to netflix.com/clearcookies. This signs you out. Sign back in and try again.
  2. Try a different browser, or the browser on your phone or tablet.
  3. Reset your network settings. If you use a VPN, turn it off. Then reset the device's network settings, and as a last step restore your modem or router to its defaults.

If none of that works, Netflix says to wait at least 24 hours and try again.

The page won't save your new email

Netflix says this usually means stale browser data or an extension getting in the way. Clear the Netflix cookie as above, restart the browser, then turn off extensions and try again. If it works, turn the extensions back on one at a time to find the one causing it.

A banner says your email address is invalid

This shows when a Netflix email bounced or was blocked. Select Update Email Address on the banner to fix a typo. If the address is correct and the banner stays, Netflix suggests your provider may be blocking its mail and lists the senders to add to your contacts: info@account.netflix.com, info@join.netflix.com, info@mailer.netflix.com, info@members.netflix.com, info@partner.netflix.com and surveys@mailer.netflix.com.

What if you can't get into the old email?

You don't need the old inbox to change the address if you can still sign in to Netflix. Sign in with your password and use netflix.com/email as normal.

If you can't sign in and don't remember which address the account uses, Netflix's page on forgotten or lost sign-in details says to go to netflix.com/LoginHelp and select I don't remember my email or phone. If you pay by card, you enter your first name, last name and the card number, and Netflix sends a reset email to the address on file. If that address is gone, or you pay with a gift card or through another company, Netflix asks you to contact customer service. Its account information page says representatives can change the email address once you pass a verification process.

If you didn't change it

If Netflix emails you to say your address was changed and it wasn't you, Netflix asks you to contact them. While you wait, change your Netflix password and the password on your email account. Before you click anything in an email like that, check it really came from Netflix; our guide on how to spot a phishing email covers the signs, and Netflix's own advice is to type netflix.com into the browser rather than follow the link.

Moving to a new address anyway?

If the reason you are changing your Netflix email is that you are leaving an old inbox, it is worth picking one you won't have to leave again. Secria Mail sign-up asks for a name, the address you want and a password. No phone number and no card. The free plan includes 1 GB and 2 aliases, so you can give Netflix its own alias: if that address ever starts getting spam, you know where it leaked from and can switch it off by deleting the alias. You can also bring your old mail with you from Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird and others under Settings, then Import & export.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change my Netflix email in the app?

Netflix's help article points to the Change Email page at netflix.com/email rather than an app menu. On a phone or tablet, open that address in the device's web browser, sign in, and change it there.

Can I change my Netflix email on a TV?

Netflix's help center doesn't describe a way to change the account email from a TV. Use a phone, tablet or computer browser instead, at netflix.com/email.

Will changing my email sign me out of my devices?

Netflix's articles on changing the email don't say it does. If you want to sign out every device after the change, for example because you think someone else has access, use Sign out of all devices from the Manage Access & Devices page.

Why can't I change my Netflix email to my old address?

Most likely the address is still attached to something. It may be on a second Netflix account or on a profile in your household. Netflix says a profile's email has to be removed before that address can be used elsewhere.

Do I need to update anything else after changing my Netflix email?

Netflix treats the payment method and phone number as separate settings on the same Account page, so check both while you are there. Once you have the new address set, our guide on telling people your email changed covers the rest of your contacts.
