How to change your email on Spotify, even without the password
You change your Spotify email on your account page under Edit personal info, or in the app under Settings and privacy > Account. On the web you confirm the change with your Spotify password, so if you never had one or forgot it, sort that out first with Spotify's password reset form, covered below.
This matters more than it used to. Spotify's help center says that after September 1, 2026, you log in with your email address, not your username. The address on your account is now the way in.
How do you change your email on Spotify?
Go to Edit personal info on your Spotify account page, type the new address under Email, confirm your password and click Save profile. In the app, tap your profile picture, then Settings and privacy, then Account, then your email.
Those steps come from Spotify's article on changing your email address, checked on November 6, 2026.
Before you change it
- Make sure the new address receives mail. Spotify sends password reset links, receipts and security notices to the address on your account. A typo here can lock you out later.
- Know your Spotify password. The web steps ask you to confirm it. If you log in with Google, Apple or Facebook, you may not have one yet. See the section on changing it without a password.
- Check the address is not on another Spotify account. Spotify's login methods page says the same login details cannot be added to more than one account. An old account on that address will get in the way.
- Check your filters. Spotify's verify email article suggests looking in spam, junk and Promotions, and removing any filters that hide mail from @spotify.
Steps on the web
- Open your Spotify account page and go to Edit personal info.
- Under Email, enter your new email address.
- Confirm your password.
- Click Save profile.
That is the whole process in Spotify's article. It does not describe a confirmation email for the change, so do not wait for one before you carry on. If Spotify later asks you to verify the address, the app shows a prompt with a SEND EMAIL button that sends a link to the address on your account.
Steps on iPhone and Android
- Open the Spotify app and tap your profile picture at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy.
- Tap Account.
- Tap your email to edit it.
If the app ever asks you to verify an address you no longer have, Spotify's verify email article says you can tap Edit email address on that prompt to update it.
How to change your Spotify email without a password
The web change asks for your password, and the password reset form only sends its link to the email already on your account. So the route depends on what you still have.
You forgot your password but still have the old inbox. Use Spotify's password reset: enter the email linked to your account and follow the link Spotify sends. Then change the email as above. If the link says it is invalid, Spotify suggests trying again and opening it in a private or incognito window. If you see "too many requests", wait or switch device or browser.
You signed up with Facebook. Spotify's Facebook login article says to create a Spotify password through the password reset form, using the email address on your Facebook account. After that you can log in with that email and the new password, and change the email like anyone else. Note that Facebook cannot be added as a login method any more, and once you disconnect it, it cannot be added back.
You signed up with Google. The Google login article gives the same fix: password reset form, your Google email, then the link in your inbox. It also says that if you signed up with Google, you need to set up a password before you disconnect Google.
You signed up with Apple and hid your email. Apple gives Spotify a random forwarding address. Spotify's Apple login article says to use that generated address on the reset form. To find it on an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Password & Security, then Apps Using Your Apple ID, and look at the address shared with Spotify.
You have lost the old inbox entirely. Spotify is direct about this: you need access to the address on your account to open a reset link. Its options are to regain access to that address, or to create a new Spotify account and start fresh. If you are still logged in on a phone, try the app route above, which edits the email from inside the account.
What your Spotify email is used for
- Logging in. Since September 1, 2026, Spotify's article on changing how you log in says you log in with your email address, not your username. If your account has no email or the wrong one, and no other login method, Spotify says you will not be able to log in.
- Password resets. The reset link only ever goes to the registered address.
- Receipts. Spotify's receipts article says you get email receipts when you start a trial or make the first payment of a new subscription. All receipts from the last 2 years are also on your Payment history page.
- Security notices. Spotify emails you about new logins and new Family or Duo members. Its help center says you cannot turn these off.
If your Spotify email changed and it was not you
Spotify's hacked account article lists "your email address changing" and "your password not working anymore" among the signs. If you can still get in, it gives four steps:
- Reset your password, open the link in a private window, and pick a strong password you have not used before.
- Go to your account page and select Sign out everywhere. Spotify says this can take up to 1 hour.
- Under Manage apps, select Remove Access on connected apps. You can reconnect them later.
- Log back in on your own devices.
If you cannot get in at all, Spotify points to its contact form. It suggests having a screenshot of a Spotify receipt or bank statement ready, with the full card number, expiry date and 3-digit code hidden.
Watch out for fake Spotify emails
An email change is a classic phishing hook, so check before you click. Spotify's email legitimacy page says an email is suspicious if the sender address does not end in @spotify.com, and that Spotify never asks for your password or payment details by email. Forward anything doubtful to spoof@spotify.com and delete it. Our guide to spotting a phishing email covers the other signs.
After the change
Spotify now sends logins, resets and receipts to the new address. Anything else that knows you by the old one will not update on its own. Our checklist on changing your email address everywhere covers the order to work through the rest, and how to tell people your email address changed has short templates.
If you need a new address anyway
If you are moving to a new address for Spotify, it can be one that asks for no phone number. Signing up for Secria Mail takes a name, the address you want and a password, with no phone number and no card. The free plan comes with 1 GB and 2 aliases. Give Spotify its own alias: if that address starts getting spam or fake "your account" emails, you know where it came from, and you can switch it off by deleting the alias. Old mail can be imported from Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and Thunderbird. Create a free account if that fits.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change my Spotify email in the app?
Yes. Tap your profile picture, then Settings and privacy, then Account, then tap your email to edit it.
Why does Spotify ask for my password to change my email?
The web steps include confirming your password before you save. If you do not have one because you signed up with Google, Apple or Facebook, create one through Spotify's password reset form using that account's email address.
Can I use one email on two Spotify accounts?
No. Spotify says it is not possible to add the same login details to multiple Spotify accounts.
Will I lose my playlists if I change my email?
No. Changing the email edits the account you already have, so your library and playlists stay on it. It does not create a new account.
Can I still log in to Spotify with my username?
Not after September 1, 2026. Spotify says you now log in with your email address, or another method such as Google or Apple. That is why the email on your account needs to be one you can open.
How do I find which email my Spotify account uses?
If you are logged in, it is on your account page. If not, Spotify's can't log in article suggests entering each address you might have used on the password reset page. The reset email only goes to an address registered with Spotify.
Change it while you can still open the old inbox and remember your password. That keeps it a one-minute job.
